A Poem By Amina Masood Janjua

A Cry In The Darkness

(Amina Masood Janjua's husband was abducted by Pakistani security agencies in July 2005. He has been missing since. She has been campaigning for his and other missing Pakistanis' release from the "Black Sites".)

Fluttering and restive,
Hanging in death and dying;
Groping and seeking.

Hoping and waiting.
Waiting and hoping.

May you emerge somehow;
May you appear somehow.
To clasp my hand;
To enfold in arms;
To embosom me.

Fluttering and restive,
Vanished and fading;
Groping and seeking.

Coming back into life;
Swelled and surging.
Comin' out yet determin'd,
Earnest, unswerving.

Throwing myself into
Eye o'the hurricane.
Foraying into
The heart of darkness to
Reclaim my Knight.

Fluttering and restive,
Vowing and pledging;
Groping and seeking.

To snatch you from your captors;
Those custodians of treachery;
At price of my life.

May God in
The wink of an eye
Without saying 'kun'
Bring you back.
Just one more time!
Into my forlorn eyes
To lighten them blissful.
Into my ghost, deserted life
Just one more time!
Just one more time!
To beam it sunny,
gleamy and gleeful.

Aeons
Of agony
And despondency
0f waiting and hoping
Of hoping and waiting.

May God in
A twinkle
Make them melt into cipher.

Fluttering and restive,
Restive and suffering;
Groping and seeking.
Supplicant.
Trembling
And shivering.

O Lord! in
A jiffy!!
Let me meet my Knight!!!
Let him enwrap me in his mantle.
Let Your Blessed Rain of Mercy
Fall on both of us - togehter.
Let us, both
In the love-dell,
live,
Live for ever!!!

(Aameen)
